My Garden Happenings

Here's a peek at what's happening in my gardens right now (and probably yours, too):
Daffodil
Daffodils are in full bloom
Garlic Chives (ornamental non-edible)
Garlic Chives (ornamental, non-edible)
Peony
Peony eyes are starting to show
Siberian Iris
Iris foliage of all types are growing like its the last half of April
Oriental Poppies
My oriental poppies never really died back this winter... I'm hoping for a good show from them this year
Summer Bulbs (dahlias, anemones, brodiaea)
I'm taking advantage of our out-of-the-ordinary high temps to start some of my summer bulbs (dahlias, non-hardy anemones, and brodiaea) outside in some nursery containers
Hydrangeas are also really leafing out ... A lot less dead stems this year on all of my hydrangeas.
If you haven't yet, walk through your perennial beds today and see what's happening... And make sure day lily and iris plants are uncovered and free of leaves and other debris.

74:365 Anemone Anyone?

74:365 Anemone Anyone?

Planted a few anemones today at a client's house... Can't remember when I've planted summer bulbs in mid-March and not been concerned about weather.

73:365 Chicago Flower 2012

73:365 Chicago Flower 2012

I made my annual trip to the Chicago Flower & Garden Show today... But, a detour to a Chevy dealership in Joliet delayed my arrival by about four hours. And can I just say KUDOS to Bill Jacobs Chevrolet... What an excellent service department!!! I can't say enough THANKS for their assistance and work. Oh... And the flower and garden show was pretty awesome, too :-)

Iris With Some Texture

This was actually a two year old image I ran into tonight while working at Harvest Bookstore at Eastview... But had some quick fun with it and turned it into something more interesting than it was originally.

Getting Busy...

It's that time again... spring gardening season has begun and I'm spending time working at BCC (Bloomington Country Club) and client's houses. At BCC I'm doing a lot of greenhouse work... seeding, planting, transplanting, separating, transplanting seedlings, throwing out plants I killed over winter :-) At client's houses I'm mostly cleaning beds, cutting back perennials I never got to in the fall, weeding, planning containers and annual beds, separating/transplanting perennials, ordering annuals/tropicals from suppliers... It's all fun :-)

But, when I can... I'm still finding time to snap a few images here and there (but never enough). When I returned home from work today I had to capture the crocuses that are blooming by our driveway... They always make me smile when they start their performance.

I hope everyone's spring is starting off as nice as ours... Busy, but nice. I'll try to keep up with the blogging as much as I can, but can't guarantee as frequent of postings. I'm still reading/studying the book of Colossians daily and will post thoughts as I can, even if the thoughts are simple and short. The book of Colossians is challenging and strengthening me in many ways during 2011 and getting me on a better path in life.

Colossians 3:2 continues as my 2011 mission statement... "Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth." I read it and say it daily (usually multiple times daily). I thank God for directing me this book on January 1st... It came along at just the right time.
